Marty Jonas been schooled in Embroidery from the City and Guilds Of London Institute in England. She has been creating textural pieces by manipulating fabrics using pleating, scrunching, ruching, shredding, rotting, bleaching and dyeing. Ms. Jonas then embellishes with threads, tybek, plastics, metals, papers, silk cocoon waste, paints.

Her latest series of work is a departure from her figurative sculptures and reveals the abstract art that has been created by years and years of advertisements on wooden telephone poles in the Berkeley and Oakland areas. This unusual art form, reminiscence of graffiti, changes daily with either more flyers added or torn off by people or the weather. The flyers on these telephone poles have now been labeled as vertical litter or street spam. Upon a closer look, these fabric collages are hand embroidered with minute stitches.
