I am a Chinese American living in the Bay Area. After growing up in Taiwan I came to the United States to study art. To me, life is full of possibilities and drama. Painting Love and Energy - a metaphor for that which is optimistic, spontaneous, and vital- nurtures my spirit. Without Love and Energy, life is like living death. My non-representational works are derived from daily experiences such as reading, self-observation, travel, and meditation. I believe positive energy and happiness can be communicated through the transformation of energy into art.

 

Love is for the soul. I have collected the word “Love” from many different people’s languages. After first talking to them and getting to know their culture, I then integrate the word into a painting. But language is so tiny in describing Love. In my work, then, I often distort the word and make it more-or-less a symbol unto itself. I purposely use warm colors, in a balance of straight and curved lines to harmonize yin and yang. Before painting I will fill myself with a spirit of love awakened from the subconscious. My wish is that the flow of meaning in the paintings, derived from the word “love” from many cultures and enhanced by my own spirit, can touch the human heart and renew the inner beauty in each person.
