The art I experienced as a child in a Midwestern town was regimented, limited to coloring books and grade school instructions to copy the teacher's examples. This approach never inspired me to color outside the lines. After receiving a degree in Educational Psychology, I moved to California in 1984. I discovered art when I took a drawing class in 1990.

My current work is an exploration of color and the figure in context. Since I am always exploring technique and subject matter, I am never sure what surprise my next piece will bring.

My art is bold. My goal is to enjoy myself. When I work, I attempt to convey a strong emotion about my subject and I want others to feel that impact. My joy in art is finding my own way, so my methods are often nontraditional. I am primarily self-taught in both design and fine art and enjoy the freedom of teaching myself what I want to know.

My series, "House of the Broken Hearts," has been exhibited for the past three years by "STAND! Against Domestic Violence," the Bay Area's largest organization dedicated to combating this societal problem. The series, available for fundraising events, is my attempt to draw attention to the serious effects of domestic violence on children. Most recently the work was exhibited at the Marilyn O'Rourke Gallery, and by the "Foster-A-Dream," organization at their annual Black and White Ball held at the Blackhawk Country Club.
