Icarus: On the Ground, 34 x 42

I have had a long-standing preoccupation with the figure as an object worthy of attention and worthy of time. This interest goes back to my very first favorite paintings which I copied from art books in the family library and has only become stronger over the years. I generally focus on the figure within narrative settings simultaneously fulfilling my love of story and symbol along with some specific vision that captures my mind's eye.

And then there is beauty, in the body, in the paint and I strive to put that in my work too, my own sense of beauty and being passionately, precariously human.

A graduate of the Kansas City art Institute, I have been living and working in the Bay Area for many years. I am a founding and active member of two East Bay artists groups, Kunstanke and CC14, and have coordinated several CC14 exhibits. Further, living in Martinez, I have a certain affection for the arts in this side of San Francisco, in the Contra Cost, the East Bay. There is a lot of courageous stuff going on out here, I like to look at it and I know what I like when I do.
